Intake, diagnostic and bench fees
Standard intake is a $25 bench fee for intake and physical shelf space plus a $45 diagnostic fee covering the first 30 minutes of diagnostic bench time. Declined or unrepairable devices owe a flat $70, plus return shipping for mail-in orders.
When deeper repair or board-level work is needed beyond the first 30 minutes, approved shop labor continues in 20-minute increments at $40 per increment ($120/hour). We agree on hidden-damage and additional-work limits at intake before proceeding.
The standard $70 declined or unrepairable charge is for bench/intake and diagnostic labor, not a completed repair or replacement parts. Our policy treats that pure labor/service charge as non-taxable; any legally required Minnesota tax treatment takes precedence.
Each eligible Tech Care diagnostic allowance waives the $45 diagnostic fee — a $45 saving per diagnosis. The $25 bench fee still applies. Your plan’s allowance counts and other benefits remain unchanged.
Approval, estimates and hidden damage
Formal approval is required before bench work via the customer portal, SMS, email, a recorded phone call or a physical intake form. Sending a device or requesting an estimate does not by itself authorize bench work.
At intake, we agree on the scope of work, diagnostic charges and a limit for additional labor or hidden damage. If work would exceed that agreed limit or change the scope, we pause and obtain your approval before proceeding.
Online price ranges are starting estimates based on your description. Inspection determines the actual fault, parts and final repair quote.
Payment and mail-in fee handling
Mail-in bench and diagnostic charges are authorized at intake. If service is declined or the device is unrepairable, the standard $70 fee plus return shipping is invoiced and must be paid before device release.
Completed repairs are invoiced and payment is required before collection or return shipment. Liquid-damage work and mobile travel deposits have separate upfront payment rules below.
Uncollected devices and abandonment
We use a 30–60-day uncollected-device process with multiple written notices before considering a device abandoned. An unpaid invoice does not automatically transfer ownership after 30 days.
Any responsible recycling or liquidation to recover bench or storage expenses will occur only after applicable Minnesota notice requirements and legal procedures have been satisfied. Required legal deadlines take precedence over this general policy.
Return address and shipping rates
Your verified return address from intake, followed by direct customer confirmation, takes priority. We confirm that address before shipment rather than relying only on an invoice checkout address.
Return shipping uses live UPS/USPS carrier-calculated rates. Free return shipping is available when an order meets the qualifying total confirmed in your quote; we confirm eligibility before you approve the order. Declined/unrepairable devices and warranty shipments remain subject to their separate shipping rules.
Return shipments with a declared value over $300 require a signature. If an incorrect confirmed address causes a return, additional postage must be paid before re-shipment.
Transit insurance and carrier claims
DJ’s covers outbound carrier insurance. Customers file transit damage claims directly with the carrier, subject to the carrier’s coverage and claim requirements.
Keep the box, packing materials and damaged device, and photograph the damage. Contact us for shipment documentation needed for your carrier claim. For inbound shipments, choose appropriate tracking and insurance with your carrier.
Shop access and mobile service
Walk-ins, drop-offs and pick-ups are welcome at our Delano service location from 8:30 AM–7:30 PM, seven days a week. No appointment is required.
Mobile repairs are available within 30 driving miles of our Delano service location, booked into an open time on our calendar. Mobile repairs have an upfront travel booking deposit of $40 plus $0.88 per mile for the round trip. Repair labor, parts and any diagnostic charges are quoted separately.
Cancel with at least 24 hours’ notice without penalty; the travel booking deposit is returned. With less than 24 hours’ notice, the deposit is forfeited and a $20 inconvenience fee applies.
Liquid damage and corrosion
Liquid-damaged devices require an upfront, non-refundable diagnostic/cleaning fee, with the amount confirmed and approved before work begins. They are serviced strictly As-Is / No Warranty because latent corrosion can cause future failures. Data recovery is a separate paid service.
If undisclosed liquid damage or corrosion is discovered, we stop work immediately, notify you and require approval of the liquid diagnostic terms before continuing. The liquid diagnostic/cleaning amount is confirmed separately; it is not an automatic extension of the standard diagnostic quote.
Repair risks and authorization
Electronics repair is unpredictable. Some devices cannot be repaired, and an attempted repair may leave a device in worse condition. We work carefully but cannot guarantee a successful outcome.
Your approved scope authorizes the necessary disassembly, testing and part replacement. Devices sent without an approved repair order are not automatically repaired; we contact you for approval or arrange a billed return.
Bugs and animal urine
If bugs or animal urine are found, we pause, notify you and confirm any additional cleaning/service charge before continuing. Existing pest service charges range from $25–$100 depending on severity. We may refuse service, seal the device and arrange its return.
Cockroach-infested devices are not eligible for warranty because infestation can recur.
Prior repair attempts and modified devices
Tell us about prior repair attempts at intake. Additional time or parts needed to correct earlier damage must fall within your approved scope or receive additional approval.
We do not accept devices modified from their factory operational design. A custom shell is acceptable; modified buttons, triggers or software are not. Do not send hacked or software-modded Nintendo Switch systems.
Warranty
Screens: 90 days. Internal hardware replacements, including power jacks, logic boards and drives: 180 days. Batteries: 1 year. Maintenance, cleaning and thermal repaste: 30 days. Liquid-damaged devices are As-Is / No Warranty.
Workmanship-related defects are covered for 100% of parts and labor. For manufacturer part failures not related to workmanship, replacement parts are covered.
For mail-in warranty evaluations and re-repairs, the customer pays both inbound and outbound shipping.
Third-party repairs, customer disassembly or broken tamper-evident seals void warranty. All parts and serialized jobs are logged. Coverage is limited to the original service; customer-caused damage and unrelated issues are excluded.
Service sales and warranty remedies
Completed service sales are final, subject to applicable consumer rights. A warranty claim is handled by inspection and the repair or part remedy described in our warranty policy, rather than an automatic refund.
The upfront liquid diagnostic/cleaning fee is non-refundable. Mobile booking deposits follow the cancellation rules above.
Data and system reset
We access only what is necessary for testing, not your personal files or messages. Back up important data before service. A system reset may be required, and recovery of data cannot be guaranteed.
Data recovery is a separate paid service requiring its own approval.
Removed parts and replaced boards
Defective parts removed and replaced during an approved repair, including motherboards, become the property of DJ’s Electronic Repairs. Replacement-board quotes assume we retain the original board.
If you want a removed part returned, request it before work begins. Requests may be declined; any exception must be agreed before replacement. Retained parts may be used for recovery, refurbishment, recycling, diagnostics or disposal.
These terms work alongside our repair warranty. Questions before you send a device? Call or text 763-204-0411.
